Position duties

My primary goal is to help coordinate advising of biology students so that they maximize their KU undergraduate experience and are well prepared for their future academic and professional endeavors. I advise many biology majors and help them create degree completion plans that incorporate their major requirements, career-related courses, and overall personal goals.

In addition to advising students, other duties include teaching two courses each year, coordinating the annual biology graduation recognition event, serving as the study abroad advisor for biology, helping advise KU’s chapter of Mortar Board, and being involved in course transformation efforts.

Academic background

As an undergraduate biology major, I was fortunate to have had an excellent faculty mentor who fostered my interests in advanced biology coursework, specifically primate behavior and ecology, and who also supervised my senior biology honors research project. I continued studying primatology in graduate school and earned my Ph.D. Now, as an advisor, I encourage students to become involved in undergraduate research, which can be a formative experience that helps open doors to new academic and professional opportunities.
